Carbon8 Aggregates was formed in May 2010 in order to commercialise the manufacture of aggregate from Air Pollution Control Residues (APCr) using accelerated carbonation. The first full commercial plant, in Suffolk, was commissioned in August 2012, supported by investment by Grundon Waste Management. In January 2014, a second line was added. Work has recently started on a second plant in Avonmouth. The fundamentals of the process, which uses carbon dioxide to treat the APCr and form the aggregate product, permanently capturing carbon dioxide, will be demonstrated.
