The Role

Our technology team is a mix of scientists and engineers with extensive knowledge and experience in the development, evaluation and implementation of technologies and services in the water and gas sectors. We work with everyone, from the largest water and gas utilities to small technology start-ups, on all kinds of novel and established technologies, from pipe lining materials through to advanced sensor, control and automation systems.

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician with a flair for practical problem-solving in an engineering test facility environment. 

Working as part of our busy Technology Team, you'll enjoy working on a variety of tasks from carrying out experiments and testing all kinds of technologies on our unique on-site facilities and client sites. 

With a positive attitude, you'll enjoy working both independently and with both junior and senior members of the team. You will be highly motivated, have an eye for detail and be proactive in suggesting alternative ways of working to improve our testing processes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Hands on laboratory, outdoor test rig and field trial testing of a wide range of technologies.
  • Working with team members to solve practical problems in our engineering test facilities.
  • Analysing and interpreting test data against relevant standards and industry requirements.
  • Assisting in the production of high quality technical reports and presentations.
  • Engaging with the supply chain to maintain WRc’s knowledge of new technology solutions.
  • Input into developing and enhancing WRc’s testing and evaluation services.

Essential Attributes

  • C&G/NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Engineering / Engineering Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C or above in Maths, English plus a relevant scientific or engineering subject.
  • Competent in basic data manipulation in MS Excel or similar.
  • Physically able to work in an outdoor environment on WRc and client sites as required.
  • Practical experience and willingness to engage in all aspects of the role.
  • High level of written and numerical competency.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Eligible to work permanently in the UK.

Desirable Attributes

  • First-hand experience in undertaking technology testing, evaluation and trials.
  • Experience with water or gas pipelines, metering equipment and associated instrumentation, control and automation.
