Swindon Guide Dogs are WRc’s Charity of the Year and the WRc Innovation Day is supporting this charity.
There are over 4800 working guide dogs in the United Kingdom and these give partially sighted and blind people their mobility, freedom, independence and confidence to get around on their own. The cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement age is just under £50,000.
Swindon Guide Dogs receive no government funding and rely solely upon donations from businesses and the general public. They have twenty guide dogs in the Swindon area and it costs £5 a day to support just one of these partnerships. The £5 pays for dog food and vet bills and comes to an annual cost of £336,500 just in this area alone.
Swindon Guide Dogs will be showcasing a demonstration and guiding of a visually impaired person.
