Sludge spreadingSewage sludge management is important to us in areas that include treatment technology, energy efficiency, recycling and emissions. Over the last 30 years we have developed and implemented new technologies such as thermophilic treatment, modelling processes, thickening and dewatering design and control, focussing on sludge production and qualities within the overall area of sewage treatment.

We have helped to develop national and European Commission (EC) legislation on waste, particularly on sludge recycling policy, through our research and consultancy activities and involvement in expert committees and have managed and reported the long term trials on recycling sludge to agricultural land. We have made significant contributions to understanding effects of sludge components on soil fertility.

Projects range from degradability and gas production measurements in laboratory and pilot plant conditions, through to evaluation of proposed treatment processes in terms of efficiency, effectiveness and destination. These are frequently linked with fields such as odour, disinfection, and nutrient use and recovery.

We take into account and use tools such as process modelling, carbon accounting, best practicable environmental option assessments, and cost estimation methods. We have experience of inspecting and auditing operations, providing measured and structured advice tailored to the particular customer priorities. The wide range and adaptability of our skills enables us to understand our clients' interests and offer a flexible and innovative service.
