The operation of sewer systems has become more stringent in the attempt to address current needs. Factors such as climate change, disposal of non-sewage items such as non-woven wipes and food waste, and the potential for reduced wastewater flows brought about through water efficiency are making the operation of existing sewer systems more challenging. This also raises the question of the purpose, use, maintenance and future design of new drainage systems.
