Open Channel Flume

This facility is used to carry out development
and testing work on open channel flow, velocity
and level monitoring equipment.

Our Open Channel Flume Facility is located in Swindon and is specifically designed for the testing and development of equipment for use in clean and dirty water over a wide range of conditions. The flume comprises of 10m long, rectangular channel 300mm wide with 450mm high glass sides that can be used in its original form or with inserts, such as V-notches or semi-circular sections.

The facility is used to carry out development and testing work on open channel flow, velocity and level monitoring equipment. Flow rate and fluid depth can be varied independently and allows a wide turndown on flow – from 0.1 to 45l/s. The channel slope is also adjustable allowing different flow/depth relationships to be explored. WRc can offer a full and confidential testing and experimental service. Alternatively WRc's flume is available to hire with full technical support.
