Welcome to the November Edition of our Newsletter

2010 news from the National Centre for Environmental Toxicology (NCET) and the list of new project starts in this newsletter demonstrates the wide range of challenges that WRc is helping our clients to meet. In water supply we are looking to improve forecasts of water demand, to assess the risks to public heath of E-Coli and to explore the scope of open networks to improve the security of supply. On the wastewater side, we are developing low cost measurement of organic load and a better understanding of the causes of sewer blockages.  We have also begun two projects looking at improving data quality to underpin operational efficiency and to reduce risk in capital schemes.  Finally we have just completed a study for Defra on potential environmental impacts of baled tyres used in construction to support the sustainable reuse of a significant waste stream.

New Portfolio Collaborative Research Projects Start

WRc’s innovative approach to collaborative research continues to deliver solutions to shared problems with a current programme of 30+  projects, providing £1.3 million of targeted research.

The most recent project offerings were presented electronically; the glossy brochure has been dispensed with, saving carbon and making it easier for our clients to access.  Industry response has been excellent and new projects have just started delivering solutions to:  deal with sewer blockages; improve monitoring and control of wastewater treatment ; improve management of sewer pumping stations ; get better asset management scores with the regulator ; and to squeeze more out of existing assets .
