To help develop the novel non-contact monitor for wastewater organic load, “Loadmon”, the WRc team has recently been joined by Dr Dai Xuewu who will be working full time on the project.

Dai is the Associate in the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) award between WRc and Oxford University and brings experience in electronics, computing and control engineering. The team will also be working with Dr Steve Sheard and Dr Dominic O’Brien as university supervisors, who together have over 40 years’ experience in optics and electronic engineering research.

The “Loadmon” project has built a model of the measurement technique and calibrated the model with wastewater samples. Work is now focused on the laboratory prototype system for Dai to use and develop the measurement further. WRc is also in advanced negotiations with a manufacturer to produce the finished instrument and this will complete a very strong technical and business team. The project is further supported by United Utilities, Severn Trent Water, Northumbrian Water and Northern Ireland Water.
