Welcome to the November edition of our newsletter. We have included details of a variety of projects which I hope will be of interest to you. These projects give a taste of recent work WRc has been involved with and cover a range of topical issues from the provision of support to the EU with Water Framework Directive (WFD) implementation to the technological development of an optical non contact monitor (Loadmon) for wastewater treatment.
|
Population growth, climate change and WFD implementation are creating issues, now and coming up on the horizon, and we know that our clients will be able to meet these challenges only by being innovative.
What I find very encouraging is the willingness of the industry to embrace and fund innovation. Although this may be born out of necessity and circumstance, I think we are looking at very exciting times ahead. I am sure the rewards will outweigh the higher risks we will sometimes be forced to take.

Portfolio
Portfolio Collaborative Research - More Innovation in the UK
Our business at WRc is to provide the skills, expertise and resources to support this innovation. For the past 25 years, the Portfolio programme has provided a unique, innovative and collaborative route to a wide range of solutions.
In July we presented 14 new projects to the sector, many developed as a direct result of workshops held with our clients. This is well targeted research producing, in most cases, outputs that can be implemented immediately: projects that have just started are aimed at household meter location, intelligent networks, surface water separation, works operator training simulators, and private sewer transfers.
We have a continuous process of needs identification and project development but we can do better. I would welcome any suggestions on how we can make this a more open process, and to make it better for you.
