A shared commitment

WRc is deeply committed to the safety of our staff, clients, stakeholders and the greater community. All our operations, whether field or office based, are required to adhere to the requirements of the company safety, health, environment and quality management systems, which govern our core processes.

WRc have adopted RSK Group's Health and Safety Policy which provides a statement of intent. It is reviewed at least annually and forms part of the contract of all employees.

It's our culture

Throughout our organisation, from day to day office work through to planning for complex field activities, safety and wellbeing are discussed and prioritised. All of our staff are empowered to stop work if there is something they see, or a position they are in which they consider unsafe.

We strive for continuous improvement - reporting positive interventions and near misses so that we can improve our environment and practices, and create a safer workplace for everyone. We take our safety and wellbeing standards with us - from office to site to overseas locations, we won't compromise on the safety of our team, our clients or any other stakeholder.

Looking after #teamWRc

Aligned with RSK, we have a joined-up wellbeing strategy in support of the five pillars of wellbeing (physical, mental, social, environmental and financial).

Each year, a variety of events are organised such as World Mental Health Day workshops, Time to Talk Day events and the annual Pedometer Challenge. We also have a community of trained Mental Health First Aiders available for any of our colleagues who need a little extra support.

Golden Safety Rules

Implemented for all employees across RSK businesses, WRc adopts the Golden Safety Rules to help prevent occupational accidents and ensure safety critical operations.

Complete planned and point-of-work (last-minute) risk assessments for every task

Obtain permits to work when necessary

Use proactive management to avoid service and utility lines

Follow vehicle, driver and journey management procedures

Only use competent and appropriately trained people with the right equipment for the task

Always use appropriate and correctly fitted personal protective equipment

Never work or drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs

Protect yourself from falls when working at height

Remember that we all have the authority to stop work

Safety Fortnight

On an annual basis, WRc comes together with the wider RSK Group to emphasise and train on an area of Health and Safety.

  • The Human Element
  • Avoiding work-related ill health

The theme for 2020 was The Human Factor, with the fortnight running 9-20 November. Teams came together virtually to consider the six core human performance tools, which include self-checking, pre-job briefings, peer checks, a questioning attitude, three-way communication and adherence to procedures. The second part of the workshop invited employees to contemplate one of the five safety topics affected by human factors, which included modules on mental health and fatigue.

In 2021, the theme of safety fortnight was “Avoiding work-related ill health”. A module for all employees covered some common elements of occupational health and individuals also participated in a second session from a choice of eight options relating to wider health and safety themes, including such topics as homeworker health and safety, the control of noise, the management of biological agents and the management of work-related stress.
