From Sewer to Sand: How Sustainable is Ever-Increasing Marine Protection?(20th May 2014)

With the completion in 2015 of the implementation of both the Water Framework Directive (the remit of which extends to one nautical mile offshore) and the revised Bathing Water Directive, and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive requiring a programme of measures to be established by 2016 for achieving good environmental status, over the next few years the coastal and marine environment will be under greater scrutiny than ever before.

This presentation will consider the implications for both the UK, the South West of England and Wales, with specific reference to catchment management, marine litter, bathing water quality and combined sewer overflows, and attempts to answer the question: How sustainable is ever-increasing marine protection?
