Water Treatment and Distribution

Initiatives such as the Water Framework Directive and Water Safety Plans are driving the need for continual improvements in water treatment. At the same time, the industry faces an ever increasing need to improve efficiency.

Through a unique combination of research, applied research and independent consultancy services, WRc delivers practical and cost-effective solutions to our clients, enabling them to manage their operations more effectively and efficiently.

Water treatment processes lie at the heart of our experience, including process investigations, formal auditing and optimisation of processes such as GAC adsorption; disinfection and treatment of waterworks sludge.

We use a wide range of investigative tools, from onsite sampling and analysis, computer modelling, laboratory testing and pilot plant work, to understand the process issues specific to our clients situation. Our unique pilot plant and experimental facilities at Swindon enable us to carry out temperature controlled evaluations of coagulation; ozonation; chlorination; pH adjustment; rapid gravity filtration and adsorption.

The water supply team includes industry recognised technical experts who work closely with a wider group of process and chemical engineers, whose expertise is enhanced through delivery of WRc’s extensive Portfolio research programme.

The water supply team has been responsible for a number of key developments in technologies such as flotation, waterworks sludge treatment and enhanced particle removal. We also draw on WRc’s wider skill base to support our clients in the field of risk assessment, benchmarking and whole life costing to support decisions on the procurement of new processes and the optimisation of existing ones.
