Welcome to the August Edition of our Newsletter

Summer is here, and with temperatures soaring, our thoughts often turn to a long cold refreshing drink of water. We are blessed in the UK that the public can take for granted that the water coming from our taps is safe to drink. This is thanks to the continuing commitment and vigilance of our water utilities and regulators.

WRc plays a key role in this and you will see in this Newsletter new projects for the Environment Agency on benefits of catchment management initiatives; for the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) on skin irritation and tap water; for UKWIR on removal of the pesticide metaldehyde; for United Utilities to develop an operator training tool; and finally for a group of water utilities to look at integrated risk management.

There are also a number of new wastewater projects and we are proud to have become the first company in the UK to obtain UKAS approval for biodegradability testing for municipal and commercial waste.

The 18 new research proposals cover a range of topical issues - including challenging the need to continue with District Metering Areas (DMAs), maximising energy recovery from anaerobic digestion, and benefiting from catchment management initiatives.
