Bespoke Training to Environment Agency Environment Officers

WRc have provided bespoke interactive training sessions in wastewater treatment and sewerage systems to North East Region Environment Agency staff to supplement internal training courses for Environment Officers.

Poorly managed sewage treatment processes can be a cause of water pollution. The training was specifically designed for the Environment Agency to give inspection team members confidence in recognising problems at sewage treatment works, following the introduction of Operator Self-Monitoring.

The course covered all aspects of sewage treatment, providing an understanding of whole works operations and interactions of unit processes with each other. These were discussed with an emphasis of what can go wrong and how to identify actual problems and potential problems during a site visit. Exercises included use of the Environment Agency inspection method, aspects of health and safety and discussion of design of works and achieving effluent quality reliability using the simulation tool “Plan-It STOAT”.
