CP378 - Instrument User Group

After a successful first year the WRc Instrument User Group (IUG) is set to continue as the UK Water Utility forum to share knowledge and experience on instrumentation related issues.

The Group, supported by eleven water utilities, provides the framework to bring users together to exchange information, develop common interests, improve understanding, collaborate on testing and evaluation and support the effective use of instrumentation within the water sector. Membership of the Group includes ICA specialists, R&D and innovation staff, instrument users and water quality scientists.

With an agenda led by the needs of these members, the Instrument User Group has covered a wide range of topics including: procurement procedures, evaluation and testing, obsolescence, manufacturer’s service, coagulation control, chlorine measurements and dissolved oxygen measurement. A wide range of strategic and technical issues have been identified for future discussion.

Robin Lennox, ICA specialist at South West Water, comments “The Instrument User Group has become very important to me over the last year, giving me real support and allowing me to take quick routes to the right answer!  Everyone brings something to the group as well as gaining something from it: we have the chance to exchange experiences confidentially, jointly approach problematic suppliers and share results of trials.  We are now planning to develop a joint testing protocol so as to have a common approach to testing with comparable results.”
