Environment Agency contracts new SE River Basin modelling

WRc have been awarded a contract by the Environment Agency to update and recalibrate the South East River Basin District SIMCAT model.

The current model was produced by WRc in 2006 as part of the Environment Agency’s National GIS SIMCAT model development study which produced a suite of 18 comparable SIMCAT models covering all Water Framework Directive river water bodies in England and Wales.

The Southern Region of the Environment Agency now requires an updated SIMCAT model, to be calibrated using more recent river and effluent flow and quality data to support water quality and water resource planning and catchment management for the Region.

The new study will significantly improve the reliability of model predictions for point source and diffuse pollution inputs and impacts across the region by including measured final effluent flow data for wastewater treatment works which were not available previously.
