Testing AMR in support of procurement
Several million water meters will be installed in the next AMP and many will include automatic meter reading (AMR) technologies. Widescale deployment of such equipment is a multi-million pound investment so selecting the right equipment is essential. WRc has a strong reputation for providing robust independent evaluations against users’ requirements. So, when United Utilities needed an independent assessment of meters and AMR equipment from three suppliers, they approached us. WRc’s experts worked with UUW to define a programme of laboratory and field tests covering meter performance, radio performance and battery life – a key factor in the business case for AMR. This is the second such trial WRc have carried out for UUW. Following the first, Neil Harper, Metering Strategy and Policy Manager – Meter Services at UU said “the quality and level of detail in the report was excellent. This information was exactly what was required in allowing us to evaluate the performance of the equipment.”
